Isai Segóvia de Oliveira was a Brazilian Adventist pastor and teacher. He was born in Vitória, the capital of the state of Espírito Santo, on September 19, 1935.1 His parents were Gentil Rodrigues de Oliveira and Maria Mercedes Segóvia de Oliveira. Isaí and his seven siblings were born in an Adventist home as his parents dedicated almost 50 of their last years as members and missionaries of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.2
He graduated in 1961 as part of the 40th class of Theology graduates from what was formerly the Brazil Adventist College, currently Brazil Adventist University, São Paulo campus. His ministry began in Espírito Santo where he directed churches and departments in the Espirito-Santense Conference.3 While serving as an assistant in July 1963, he contributed to and participated in the inauguration of a church in Vila Velha, Vitória.4 By July 1969, he was responsible for the Sabbath School, Lay Activities and Radio and TV departments, and served as a part of the Christian Vacation School, which took place in the city of Mantena.5 In the same year, he taught a series of preparation courses for lay evangelism at the church of Vila Valério, São Gabriel.6
Pastor Isaí was transferred to the district of Piracicaba, in the Paulista Conference, at the end of 1969.7 There, he led a congress of Volunteer Missionaries the following year. The event attracted “excited” young people from Piracicaba and neighboring districts.8 In the early 1970s, he was also a professor at the Brazil Adventist University, São Paulo campus, and the Luzwel Institute.9
In 1976, Pastor Oliveira completed his master’s degree in history from the University of São Paulo (USP). The title of his academic work was: “Mitra - The God - Sun of the East. Their Sacrifices - Places of Worship, Priests and their Eschatology.” His advisor was Professor Eurípedes Simões de Paula.10
On April 6, 1991, Pastor Isai was present at the inauguration and first investiture ceremony of Adventurers in Brazil, which took place at the Church of Cidade Dutra in the city of São Paulo. He served as the church’s pastor. The ceremony was led by Pastor José Silvestre and Brother Marcelo Franca. Currently, the club is called “Soldados do Rei (Soldiers of the King) Kids” Adventurers Club.11
He married teacher Maria Guaraci Camacho Oliveira on January 15, 1963, with whom he had two sons and a daughter. In his life, Isai Segóvia de Oliveira was a dedicated servant of Christ until his death in 2020, in Guarapari, Espírito Santo, the victim of a heart attack.12
