Adolpho dos Reis was an administrator and treasurer in the Adventist work, gaining special recognition, particularly in the educational field. He was born on December 11, 1929, in Santo Antônio da Patrulha, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), the son of Agenor and Honorina Amador dos Reis.1 Adolpho was born near Rolante, RS, where the Adventist movement has had a strong presence since its early days in Brazil. The surname Amador dos Reis carries great significance in the Adventist community, as it’s the surname of José, the first Brazilian pastor to be ordained.2

Adolpho’s educational journey began at the school at Fazenda Passos3 (Passos Farm). One of the first Adventist schools in Brazil, it has been in operation for over a hundred years. 4 However, he didn’t complete his studies there. Still in middle school, he moved on to the Cruzeiro do Sul Adventist Academy (IACS) in Taquara, RS. Adolpho then continued his study at another Adventist institution, completing his technical accounting degree at what was then the Brazil Adventist College (now the Brazil Adventist University São Paulo Campus).5

Adolpho’s work began at the Rio Grande do Sul Conference, where he served as a packer and accountant at the Adventist Book Center. His career continued in the field of accounting, becoming a financial administrator deeply involved with younger people. In this way, Adolpho returned to IACS, but now as treasurer, while also working in education at the Parana Adventist Academy (now Faculdade Adventista Paranaense [Parana Adventist College]) and at what was then the Campineiro Adventist Institute (now the Brazil Adventist University Hortolândia Campus).6

Still serving as a treasurer, he worked at the former Paraná Conference and at the South Brazilian Union (responsible for Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul). Finally, he served as the administrative director of what was then called the Brazil Adventist College (now the Brazil Adventist University São Paulo Campus).7

Adolpho married Erna Kumpel dos Reis, and together they had two children: Adolfo and Keila.8 Adolpho also worked with his wife in running a vegetarian restaurant in Porto Alegre.9 In his final years, Adolpho lived in Rolante, where he passed away on February 21, 2022, due to cardiac arrest and acute respiratory syndrome because of COVID-19. He was buried at the Adventist cemetery located on Fazenda Passos.10 Shortly after Adolpho's passing, Erna also passed away on December 2, 2022.11
